Did you remember to eat? Have you had any water? </p><p>How soundly did you sleep last night?</p><p>How stressful are your surroundings right now? (Whether it&#8217;s dealing with family  or your co-workers.)</p><p>Is your day going pretty much according to schedule?</p><p></p><p>Now ask yourself how your body feels. Are you tired? Stiff? Achey? Dealing with a new/old injury/pain? </p><p>Getting a baseline of where you are is of utmost importance before jumping into any exercise regimen. This routine is not a prescription for physical therapy or movement. These are suggestions for breaking up with monotony of the daily routine without a huge commitment in a) having to get to the gym or b) having fancy equipment. This is not a &#8220;no pain, no gain&#8221; situation, do not work through pain. This is a movement snack for your body. </p>

When it comes to lifestyle management, especially when addressing chronic illness management or prevention, stress management is critical. I fear that the common tips and tricks social media pop-health gurus regurgitate often make stress management sound like a self-care band-aid  rather than addressing root causes of stress. On the other side of that coin, I often run into healthcare professionals that see the root causes and put blame exclusively on government institutions/authorities and our historical failures as a society.  </p><p></p><p>I find neither of these methods all that helpful. </p><p>Yes, leaders should not go out of their way to make life harder for the people that they lead. However, using this as an exclusive avenue for blame, creates an external locus of control that simply does not empower people dealing with life altering stresses today. </p><p>While mindfulness, medication, breathing techniques, exercise, sleep and talk therapy all have their place in the role of mental and physical health, there are still many &#8220;controllables&#8221; that don&#8217;t get discussed enough. </p><p></p><p>That&#8217;s what this article is about&#8212; identifying the stresses and sufferings of life  that we can address as individuals and as small groups of people. </p>
